Mitch’s BBQ has been serving the Warrendale community delicious barbecue since 1992. You can find traditional items such as ribs, brisket, and mac and cheese, but their menu also surprises with pork belly bao buns, ramen, and tacos.

If it’s your first time at Mitch’s, I definitely suggest making the trip with a friend so you can split a variety of menu items. It’s such an intimidatingly large menu, and this will help you narrow down what your favorites are. I’ve been to Mitch’s many times over the years and always find something new to try. From the pork BBQ sandwich to the smoked chicken wings, Mitch’s has something for everyone (well, except vegetarians and vegans).

Pork belly steamed buns

To start your meal off right, either the smoked pork belly steamed buns or the brisket buns are a must. I love bao buns, and you typically don’t see them at barbecue restaurants, so I always order at least one of these dishes. The pork belly steamed buns are melt-in-your-mouth good. The pork belly is fatty and tender, while the bao buns themselves are like fluffy clouds. As with all of the meats served here, this dish is bursting with smoky flavor. The same can be said for the flavorful brisket buns. These buns are packed with brisket, so you know you’re getting your money’s worth.

Pork belly ramen

If it’s a chillier day, then one of my favorite items to get is the ramen. I opt for the pork belly, but I’ve heard from friends that the pork shoulder and brisket are just as satisfying. The ramen broth is simple and not too complex, but the meat is offering most of the flavor here. The ramen is topped off with some bok choy and green onions for freshness and a soft-cooked egg for a touch of creaminess and umami.

You can’t visit Mitch’s without trying some of their ribs. Luckily, you’re able to order them by the bone, so you’ll have room to sample some other dishes as well. The ribs here are next level. When you take a bite, you’re overwhelmed by the earthy flavors, and the meat just falls right off the bone. While the ribs stand on their own, their tangy barbecue sauce is not to be missed.

Brisket sandwich

One of the restaurant’s most popular dishes is the brisket sandwich, which is smoked to perfection and then served on a chewy potato bun. The meat itself has a woodsy flavor from the smoker and is perfectly juicy.

Whether you opt for the ribs, the brisket sandwich, or one of the other delectable menu items, you have to try one of the countless sides. My favorites are the creamy mac and cheese, the crunchy coleslaw, or the spicy Mexican street corn, which is another item you don’t often see at traditional BBQ restaurants. You can also try the kimchi, which adds yet another layer of umami to the meat.

Mitch’s homemade ice cream

You can’t skip dessert here! Mitch’s makes their own ice cream, and their flavor range is impressive. They have the typical flavors such as Oreo, chocolate, and butter pecan, as well as some more adventurous flavors like corn, jalapeño, and carrot-ginger. While I love the Oreo and chocolate peanut butter flavors here, the corn is a surprising treat. It’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely a unique flavor that’s worth a try.

Mitch’s has been around for over 33 years for a reason. They’re serving up high-quality, thoughtfully prepared meats in both conventional and fun ways that make people excited to eat.
