Independence Health System Unveils Renovated 5 South Unit

Butler Memorial Hospital celebrated the $2.3 million renovation of its 5 South inpatient drug and alcohol unit with an open house this May. Funded largely through $2.2 million from HealthChoices and Butler County Human Services, the upgrades include ADA-accessible rooms, expanded capacity (18 to 20 beds), anti-ligature fixtures, updated interiors, and improved accessibility. Opened in 1983, 5 South is one of Pennsylvania’s few hospital-based detox and rehabilitation programs. Leaders say the refreshed, therapeutic space will enhance patient care and recovery.
