KELLY STRAYHORN THEATER ANNOUNCES OCTOBER SHOW
Barbershops have long been centers of economic prosperity and societal transformation, serving as safe havens for Black folks and playing a crucial role in the early hip-hop scene. Barbershop Talk is a deeply personal performance in progress from Freshworks artist-in-residence Yusef Shelton (Ys1) set within a stylized barbershop environment. Through live music, spoken word, and dance, Ys1 transports the audience into the heart of Black barbershop culture and brings to life the candid conversations and shared experiences that give these communal spaces their transformative impact. Performances will be held at KST’s Alloy Studios (5530 Penn Ave) on October 4th and 5th from 7:30- 9 p.m. Tickets are “pay what moves you,” so price ranges from $15-$30.

FOX CHAPEL AREA STUDENTS NAMED 2025 NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS
Seven Fox Chapel Area High School seniors have been designated as National Merit Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. The semifinalists from Fox Chapel Area High School are David Black, Anna Delale-O’Connor, Benjamin Fiedler, Rayna Huang, Arnim Kuchhal, Zhana Neumann, and Rohit Velankar. All of these students were selected based on their 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) scores. Each year, more than 1.3 million juniors complete the PSAT/NMSQT and are automatically entered in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 advance to become semifinalists. The semifinalists represent less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors. The semifinalists now have the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level and compete for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million to be offered in the spring of 2025.

Eight Top Chefs from the Pittsburgh Metro area will convene under one roof and compete in a soup cook-off to support the spinal cord injury community.
