PRIME STAGE THEATRE’S 4TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA AWARDS
Prime Stage Theatre’s 4th Annual High School Drama Awards will be held Monday, Jan. 29, 2024 at the New Hazlett Theater to honor excellence by student actors performing in non-musical plays. “What makes these awards unique,” said Drama Awards Coordinator John Dolphin, “is that to be eligible, the students must be in a backstage leadership role or an onstage performance role. We encourage adult mentorship and assistance, but in the end, these productions are student-run.” During the evening, schools have the option to present a short scene from their nominated production. The event annually draws around 400 students, teachers and families. “The High School Drama Awards is our way of looking to the future,” said Dr. Wayne Brinda, Prime Stage Theatre producing artistic director. “By encouraging these young actors and tech crew in their early efforts, we’re building a strong foundation for Pittsburgh theatre in years to come.”

DEREK HUGHES IN BAG OF TRICKS AT LIBERTY MAGIC JANUARY 17TH-FEBRUARY 4TH
Quintessential funny man Derek Hughes has been lauded by audiences and critics alike, with The New York Times calling him “thoroughly entertaining.” In his newest show, BAG OF TRICKS, Derek has built on his astonishing reputation and devotion to the prestidigitation craft, bringing comedy and gravitas to each and every magical effect he performs. Rarely known to speak in public, Teller (of Penn & Teller) has remarkably broken his silence to compliment Hughes, calling him ”Engaging, artful and smart.” BAG OF TRICKS combines Derek’s witty sense of humor with his unique take on the art of conjuring.
